When the wall knows the cost: Obeya as a strategic cost management instrument.

Most Obeya rooms are excellent at showing what is being built. Far fewer show whether it is worth building - or what the steady accumulation of scope changes is actually costing the organisation.

This talk presents a research-backed framework for extending the Obeya's visual discipline from operational delivery into strategic cost management, and shares live findings from a real-world pilot conducted with Flynth, one of the Netherlands' leading advisory and accountancy firms.
The research identifies two forms of strategic waste that are structurally invisible in most organisations. The first is passive: money continues flowing into initiatives that are not generating their planned value, because the gap only becomes visible at the next quarterly review - by which point redirection is expensive. The second is active: scope decisions that appear individually reasonable accumulate into collectively undisciplined cost, because the running total is never in the room when the decision is made.

Two practical interventions are proposed, each testable within a standard Obeya environment in under six weeks: a value burnup chart that surfaces underperforming investments in the same review cycle they emerge, and a scope change register whose dominant visual element is a live cumulative cost total - designed to anchor every new decision against the full weight of everything already approved.
The Flynth pilot provides the first real-world evidence for both mechanisms. Come and see whether the hypotheses held, what we learned when they did not, and how the strategic cost Obeya can be built in any organisation already running an Obeya practice.

You will leave with:
> a clear framework for distinguishing passive and active strategic waste;
> a practical visual design for both panels;
> and the measurement framework to run your own test within weeks of this summit.At Flynth, they are working on updating and innovating their entire landscape – from internal users to clients (external users). Flynth uses Obeya to visualize the 'Up-to-date' program (consisting of 8+ projects) in order to bring these projects to a successful conclusion. We would like to take you through how Flynth got started, where things stood in Dec/Jan, and where they stand around the Summit. > The evolution of an Obeya – what we have learned, done, and not done, and why that works for us!
